Many Thanks to Student Survey Takers!
Maureen Cahill

Over 200 of our students responded to our call to take the Law Library's Student User Survey, and we thank you for taking the time to give us your opinions and suggestions.

You can access the summary of the responses to the objective portion of the survey and a small, representative collection of the open-ended comments at this address:  http://www.law.uga.edu/library/libraryinfo/summary.html.

The true survey results will be the many small changes and long term projects that student suggestions inspire. Already, we have ordered new chairs for the balcony carrels. That order also includes new tables, carrels, and chairs for the Annex. The annex tables and carrels will have task lighting and power outlets just as the reading room tables do. We will continue to work with University Physical Plant to try and maintain a comfortable temperature in the Annex. (The HVAC system in that building is very old, replacement parts are nearly impossible to obtain, and there is no immediate prospect of the entire system being replaced.) And, we have put power strips with multiple outlets on each of the tables on the balcony.

Many other suggestions are provoking productive discussions among library decision makers. We're exploring new purchases for the collection; getting ready to fuss about food, drink, and hours policies; puzzling over ways to resolve the tensions among group study, socializing, and quiet space; and reaffirming our commitment to providing excellent service to all library users.

Thanks again to everyone who completed the survey. We hope that you see your ideas at work helping us improve the library.

Joyce Moss Retires; Library Welcomes Jacque Harris
Ann Puckett

The Law Library administrative office said good-bye to long-term employee Joyce Moss on February 26. Joyce, who was the Administrative Associate II for the past 10 years, was well known in the law school and around campus. She will be sorely missed.

A search for a permanent replacement is under way, but in the mean time, we are fortunate to have Jacque Harris on a temporary basis. Jacque was a legal secretary in Decatur, a clerk in the Fulton County Solicitor's Office, and a records document specialist at the Fulton County Jail prior to moving to Athens with her husband and family. She is pursuing an associate's degree in paralegal studies.

Law Library Hosts First Law School Authors' Reception
Sharon Bradley

Candlelight, wine, and roses. How appropriate for Valentine's Day. On February 14 the Law Library sponsored an elegant reception with the theme "We Love Our Authors." The honorees were members of the law school community who had authored books from 2004 to the present.

After signing the library copy of their work, each author was presented with a red rose. The signed copies become part of the library's Faculty Writings Collection. In addition to members of the law school community and UGA administrators, the guests included family and friends of the authors.

Professor Ann Puckett, Law Library Director commented, "It was a very successful event. The authors were appreciative of the recognition. We will have another reception in a couple of years after members of the law school have had time to write more books."

Law Library Spells for Literacy

For the second year in a row, the Law Library fielded a team to compete in the Spirited Spell-off Spectacle, a fundraiser for the Athens-Clarke Literacy Council. On February 18, the LawLiBees, comprised of 3L and Law Library Research Assistant Pam Brannon, grad student and Law Library Circulation Assistant Lauren Knowlton, and Foreign and International Law Librarian Anne Burnett, finished in the middle of the pack of ten teams. The winning team was from the Athens Rotary Club, with the UGA Press team coming in second.

Some of the words this year were: glaucescent, horripilation, and splanchnic. Try this month's crossword puzzle below to experience additional words from the Bee!
