The Library Offences Act, and a Friendly Reminder to Be Extra Quiet in the Annex

At today's exchange rate, the 40 shillings penalty imposed in 1898 would be roughly equivalent to $280 U.S.!  We won't fine you 40 shillings for talking on your cell phone in the Annex, but we will take this opportunity to remind you that the Annex is designated as an ultra-quiet zone and ask you to refrain from talking or using your cell phone in that area.
