The
two buildings of the Law Library have never had coordinated fire and
emergency alarms. In fact, folks in the Annex simply cannot hear alarms
that do sound. We requested a coordinated alarm system several years
ago, and finally the system installation is scheduled.
Installation began Tuesday, January 8 and will continue for the better
part of three weeks. Most of the noisy work will be done back in the
offices rather than out in the reading room but there will no
doubt be noisy days. Please bear with us as the work progresses. We'll
do our best to communicate to the workers that anything they can do to
minimize the noise will be greatly appreciated.
Attention 1Ls: Lexis and Westlaw Training
Both
Lexis and Westlaw will provide training for 1Ls early this semester. As
part of your Research & Writing class you are required to attend
two training sessions for each system. The first session covers case
materials, and the second session covers statutory materials.
The training schedules and instructions for registering online to attend these required sessions are available at http://www.law.uga.edu/library/calr/calr_training08.htm. Please sign up early to avail yourself of the times most convenient for your schedule.
Also, make certain that your accounts with both systems are activated
and working before you arrive for your first training session! If you
need assistance with your Lexis and Westlaw accounts, stop by the
Reference Desk (our hours are posted here).
Deborah Baker Takes Administrative Associate Position
The
Law Library welcomes a fresh face to the administrative office on
January 17. Deborah Baker assumes new responsibilities as the
Administrative Associate, but she’s no stranger to the library. She has
been an important asset to the Cataloging Department for three years.
Deb brings to our office a strong background in management and human
resources. She managed large retail stores in Pennsylvania for twelve
years before moving to Georgia. Since leaving retail, Deb has
volunteered for three years as an intervention counselor, working with
victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
Deb likes to travel, is a self-proclaimed news junkie, and loves
gardening, although she admits she’s not always successful at it. She’s
an avid fan of Georgia football, Ladydogs basketball, and the
Pittsburgh Steelers. She lives with her husband Walter in
Oglethorpe County with their dog, Toto, who keeps them both on a short
leash.
Please stop by and say hello to Deb who has moved on up to the
Administrative Offices of the Law Library on the second floor of the
Annex.
