The University of Georgia was founded on January 27, 1785. The Arch (and its pillars of Wisdom, Justice & Moderation) which represents both the past and future; the piece's foundation. The Scales of Justice symbolize the UGA School of Law founded in 1859. The nexus between the foundational Arch and UGA School of Law are their respective principles:
