ATHENS, Ga. – Three students from the University of Georgia School of Law will compete for the national title at the American Bar Association National Appellate Advocacy Competition to be held in Chicago, Ill., later this week (March 31-April 2).

The team – comprised of Stephanie C. Anderson, Michael A. Caplan and W. Elliott Stiles – won the right to advance to the national round after claiming the tournament’s top trophy and Second Best Brief Award at the regional competition held in New Orleans, La., March 3-5.

A second Georgia Law team finished the regional competition as finalists. The team of second-year students Candice V. Blain, Carl E. Jones and James E. Radford was narrowly defeated by South Texas College of Law. Jones was named the competition’s sixth best oralist.

Third-year students Darren C. Hickman, Brendan G. Krasinski and Richard L. Maxwell coached both teams.
