GEORGIA WATER ISSUES TO BE FOCUS OF ANNUAL RED CLAY CONFERENCE

ATHENS, Ga. - Georgia water legislation issues will be the focus of the 15th Annual Red Clay Conference on March 28. Key stakeholders in the tri-state water war will be present to debate the various options under negotiation. In addition, the merits of the differing Georgia water allocation bills, currently in the state's House and Senate, will be discussed. Other issues to be presented include stormwater and wastewater management, wetland conservation, coastal preservation and watershed protection.

Organized by the University of Georgia Environmental Law Association, H2003: Georgia Water Law will start at 8:30 a.m at the School of Law's Dean Rusk Hall. The luncheon keynote speaker will be the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper's Executive Director Sally Bethea. Panelists include Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Bob Kerr, Gwinnett County Utilities' Jim Scarborough, Georgia Public Interest Research Group's Jen Giegerich, Alston & Bird's Jim Stokes and leading attorneys, environmental advocates and experts.

The conference is expected to draw an attendance of more than 100 attorneys, government leaders, environmental advocates, academics and students. For attorneys, continuing legal education (CLE) is available.
