UGA SCHOOL OF LAW MOOT COURT TEAMS CONTINUE WINNING TRADITION

ATHENS, Ga. - Recently the University of Georgia School of Law brought home the national title from the Dean Jerome Prince Memorial Evidence Moot Court Competition held in Brooklyn, N.Y.

UGA's winning team, comprised of second-year students Stacey Carroll, Tonya Stokes and Melissa Davis, beat teams from across the country. UGA defeated the University of Tennessee during the final round of competition to secure the national title. In addition, the team won third best brief and Carroll won best oralist.

School of Law Advocacy Director Kellie Casey was pleased with the team's win as it is the law school's first time to compete in this tournament. "I could not be more thrilled with the team's performance. To go to a new competition and take home the top trophy and win two other awards is just outstanding."

The team was coached by third-year student Brian Stimson.

In another tournament, the UGA School of Law advanced to the quarterfinal round of the National Appellate Advocacy Moot Court Competition where they were narrowly defeated by Baylor University. This team was comprised of second-year students Bart Newman, DaVida Sams and Mack McGuffey and was coached by third-year students Allison Sawyer and Mary Paige Tucker. School of Law alumna Holly Pierson served as the team's advisor.

These two competitions complete the 2001-02 advocacy season for the School of Law. In total, the law school won one national and six regional/state championships in addition to numerous individual and teams honors.
