UGA LAW SCHOOL NAMES NEW ASSISTANT DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
ATHENS, Ga. - Phyllis R. Cooke of Commerce was recently promoted to assistant director of development for the University of Georgia School of Law. She will be primarily responsible for coordinating the law school's annual giving program, but will assist in all facets of law school fund raising.
Cooke is no stranger to the UGA law school, having served as activities coordinator in the Alumni Programs Office since December 1992. Before coming to the UGA law school, Cooke was employed in Gainesville, Georgia for a year at Fairfield Mortgage as a loan processor and for 13 years at Baker & Taylor Books in various positions including pricing specialist in the corporate office in Charlotte, North Carolina.
"For many years now, Phyllis has been an important ambassador for the law school and has helped strengthen relationships with our alumni," said Director of Development Charlie Wurst. "We're glad she'll be putting her considerable experience to use in fund raising. We know she will make an immediate impact on the day-to-day operation of our office, will enable us to fully implement several existing giving programs and will show great creativity in establishing new ideas and programs."
Cooke, a native of Commerce, graduated from Commerce High School in 1979. She has two daughters, Christy and Dana Westmoreland, who attend Commerce City Schools.
