UGA EQUAL JUSTICE FOUNDATION SPONSORS 5K BENEFIT RUN APRIL 19

ATHENS, Ga. -- The Equal Justice Foundation of the University of Georgia School of Law will hold its third annual 5K "Run, Walk or Crawl" on Saturday, April 19 to provide fellowships for law students seeking public interest law positions. The event, which begins at 9 a.m., will start and finish at UGA's Stegeman Coliseum. The race course will wind across campus.

Public interest jobs are positions that allow students to work on a local or national level providing legal services to under-represented members of society. Most of the summer public interest jobs available to law students, however, are volunteer positions, and many students cannot afford to take jobs without pay. The EJF fellowships offset students' living expenses, thus enabling more students to gain experience in public interest law.

"We have more people who want fellowships than we have money to give," said Katie Hung, a third-year law student and EJF president. "This fundraiser has been successful for us because it's a fun event for the whole family -- whether you're runners or just enjoy a relaxing walk. We hope the response from the Athens community will be great and allow us to increase the number of fellowships EJF provides."

Registration for all ages is $15. Participants will receive a T-shirt and snacks will be provided. You may register on-site or call Katie Hung in advance.
