U.S. and European officials to address the international fight against terrorism
ATHENS, Ga. - The University of Georgia Dean Rusk Center - International, Comparative and Graduate Legal Studies will present a two-day colloquium titled "The International Fight Against Terrorism: A Colloquium on the Prospects for Further Cooperation Between the European Union and the United States" April 13-14.
Speakers from around the globe will be in attendance to address a range of transcendent issues in the international fight against terrorism, including common challenges and achievements, data mining and the conflict between freedom of the individual and governmental measures taken to protect civil society.
The conference will convene members of the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union who will join colleagues and counterparts from the U.S. Congress, the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security.
Notable panelists will include: Jim Marshall, U.S. congressman from Georgia; Jonathan Faull, director general for justice, freedom and security at the European Commission; Stewart Baker, assistant secretary for policy at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; and several members of the European Parliament.
The conference will open with a keynote address to be delivered by Faull on Friday at 9:30 a.m. Two panel discussions will be held that same day and will be followed by Marshall speaking at an evening event. A third panel will be held on Saturday to conclude the colloquium's activities.
This conference is being held in cooperation with the Centre for European Law at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. All events will be held in the Larry Walker Room of Dean Rusk Hall, which is part of the UGA School of Law. The event is free and open to the public.
