William E. Stiles Photograph

The Artist

William Elliott Stiles Jr. graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2006. Stiles, who specializes in commercial vehicle litigation in Atlanta, began painting while in high school and has said that this creative activity was a much needed stress reliever during his time as a law student. While studying in Athens, he created and donated what would become his first piece in the school' s collection titled "The Common Law" (2004). This painting reflects relevant case law, theories, ideas and history examined during his first semester as a law student.

The Collection

Even as an attorney, Stiles continued to paint, donating over a dozen works of art to the law school. His works touch on important legal concepts, the history of UGA Law, and the city of Athens. Currently on display in the second floor gallery of Hirsch Hall is The Concept Collection.
