Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia School of Law Staff Council presented Leslie Grove with the 2009 Emma P. Terrell Employee of the Year Award. Given annually, this honor recognizes and rewards outstanding employees for their service to the law school.
Grove is an application programmer at Georgia Law. She was selected for the award in part because of her leadership and expertise demonstrated during the redesign of the school’s Web site. One of the nominators said, “The site would never have been completed without Leslie’s initiative, dedication and long, long hours. … Her attitude and work ethic are phenomenal.” Other nominators described her optimism, approachability and genuine ardor for her job.
“I feel surprised and extremely humbled to have been the recipient of the award this year,” Grove said. “I am lucky to work with the talented and caring people at Georgia Law and love doing what I do.”
A native of Summerville, SC, Grove has been a law school employee for more than eight years, including two years as a student worker in the computing services area. She earned her bachelor’s degree from UGA in computer science in 2001.
The award, formerly known as the Employee Distinguished Service Award, was renamed in February 2005 in memory of the late Emma P. Terrell, a longtime employee remembered for her dedication to and enthusiasm for the law school.
The Law School Staff Council presents this award annually to recognize staff members who demonstrate an outstanding work ethic, commitment to service and exceptional job performance in addition to the cooperation necessary to increase the quality of education and service provided by the law school. The recipient receives a monetary award in addition to a certificate.
