Book Discussion on How the Other Half Banks
Abstract
Professor Mehrsa Baradaran talked about her book How the Other Half Banks: Exclusion, Exploitation, and the Threat to Democracy, in which she argues that we have two banking systems in the U.S., one for those who are well-off and another for everyone else. She said that this secondary banking system, made up of payday lenders and check-cashing providers, developed out of the deregulation policies of the 1970s.
