Prevention, there were nearly 50,000 deaths nationwide in 2017 attributable to the opioid crisis in America. In October 2018, the University of Georgia will come together as an interdisciplinary group to share research and scholarship by UGA faculty, staff and students that will help address critical issues relating to opioid abuse and addiction. It is intended that the Interdisciplinary Opioid Epidemic Symposium discussions will become the basis for policy briefs, white papers and scholarly articles intended for use by policymakers at the state and federal levels, healthcare providers, and other key stakeholders in addressing this national issue. The conference was held at the Miller Learning Center on Saturday October 20, 2018.
