School of Law students sweeping the planet as summer 2017 global externs
Abstract
School of Law students sweeping the planet as summer 2017 global externs
Wednesday, June 7, 2017This summer, 20 law students will earn practice experience through the University of Georgia School of Law’s Global Externship initiative. Most will serve in placements overseas, while some will serve in internationally related positions in the United States.
Administered by the school’s Dean Rusk International Law Center, the decades-old Global Externship initiative enables Georgia Law students to gain practice experience via placements at law firms, in-house legal departments, government agencies and nongovernmental organizations around the world. Thanks to generous donations, virtually all global externs receive financial support from law school funds.
This year’s participants will work in Africa, North America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Twelve students will work in business law placements – in practice areas including intellectual property, finance, environment and trade – and 8 will serve in public interest law placements, working on issues such as international criminal law, international child law and international human rights. A few of these students will complement their externship experience with participation in the school’s Global Governance Summer School in Belgium and the Netherlands.
