Georgia Law students emerge victorious in Southeast Model African Union
Abstract
Congratulations to the six-member Georgia Law team which won the Southeast Model African Union. Competing against 21 teams from a dozen universities and colleges, they earned the right to advance to the national tier of the contest to be held in Washington, D.C. in February. The group was named the best delegation and each member was individually honored. The team is comprised of LL.M. students Johann Ebongom (recognized as outstanding delegate and outstanding parliamentarian for the Committee on Economic Matters) and Nelly S. Ndounteng (recognized as outstanding delegate for the Committee on Social Matters; second-year student Chanel O. Chauvet (recognized as outstanding delegate for the Committee on Peace and Security); and first-year students Shummi Chowdhury (recognized as honorable mention for the Committee on Pan-Africanism and Continental Unity), Amanda Hoefer (recognized as honorable mention for the Committee on Democracy, Governance and Human Rights) and Rebecca “Becca” Wackym (recognized with a participation award for the Executive Council). This competition seeks to sharpen skills in diplomacy, leadership, government, legal research and public speaking. The Dean Rusk International Law Center sponsored the event, which was hosted by UGA's African Studies Institute.
