Future-proofing the Law Library: Effectively Incorporate Future-proofing into Library Strategic Planning

Abstract

How do we envision the law library of 2030? 2040? 2050? How do we ensure law libraries are prepared for the future? The discussion group predicts coming trends and tips for future-ready strategic planning. Topics addressed include increasingly mobile and remotely located patrons; the library of the future's physical facilities; the impact of AI and robotics on law library services; the future of legal education and legal scholarship; preparing library staff to adapt to rapidly shifting priorities; supporting outdated technologies, especially for preservation purposes; changes in the ILS, discovery platforms and legal research searching; open access to legal scholarship; digital information management strategies; and skills essential for the next generation of law librarians.
